Compatibility Issue #01 - Argus
Enhanced Graphing Module
Please Note: This workaround is only required if you have purchased the Enhanced Graphing module for the Argus for Windows software. This workaround need only be applied once, and from then on will be in effect every time you run the Argus software. When Argus was installed on your computer, an icon to launch the software was placed on your desktop as well. The icon will feature the Argus logo, but will have differing text, depending on the version. For example, if you installed the Argus Operator Program, Build 63, you should see the following: In order to make sure that the graphing module works properly, we need to ensure that the Argus software is always run as administrator. In Windows Vista, when the UAC feature is turned on, every action that requires an administrative privilege generates a confirmation dialog, even when logged on as the administrator. The reason Microsoft made Vista's security very explicit like this was to make sure that no malicious programs can affect the operating system, because a confirmation dialog would be generated when the program tried to install itself, or perform any other restricted operation. We can enable run as administrator mode by right clicking on the Argus icon on the computer desktop and choosing properties: ![]() Doing this will make the properties dialog appear. The default tab which will be selected is 'Shortcut'. Click on the 'Compatibility' tab. Once there, check the box entitled 'Run this program as an Administrator', which is located at the bottom of the dialog, and the click the Apply button. ![]() In order for limited accounts to run the Argus software properly, they will also need to run it as an administrator. This can be done in one of two ways. Either they can choose 'Run as Administrator' from the right-click menu from the shortcut on the desktop, or an administrator can choose the settings for this application from the properties dialog. In order for an administrator to select the program settings for all users, follow the steps outline previously, and then on the Properties dialog's Compatibility tab, click on the 'Show settings for all users' button. You will get the following security dialog: ![]() Click on the continue button. The following dialog will appear: ![]() Click on the 'Run this program as an administrator' box and then click OK. Click OK on the Compatibility screen as well to return to the desktop. After this is done you should be able to run Argus with no problem. When you actually run the program, you will be prompted to confirm that you want to allow Argus to access your computer. If you are logged on as an administrator, you will see the following screen: ![]() Simply click Allow to let Argus run on your computer. If you are logged on as a limited access account and are trying to run Argus, you will see the following dialog: ![]() To continue running the Argus software, enter the password for the administrator whom the program was authorized to run under.
